In three places in the municipality of Santa Cruz there will be activities to celebrate the arrival of the Andean, Amazonian and Chaco New Year. Both the Mayor’s Office and the Movimiento Al Socialismo prepare their own celebrations.
The first, chronologically, is that of the Mayor’s Office, which will begin at 19:00 this Tuesday the 20th, in the main square of Villa Paraíso, Municipal District 14, where a Guarani community resides. The activity is scheduled to conclude at 1:00 on Wednesday the 21st. The Morning Star, a ritual of the Guarani culture, focused on the prediction of the agricultural year that begins.
“He ritual consists of observing the star (planet Venus) and clearly appreciate its beauty. If it is seen there will be a good agricultural year and, if it is not like that, then it will not be a good omen, according to the Guaraní worldview”, publishes the Municipality in its invitation to the celebration.
He also points out that the Yasitata Guasu (moon on fire), the star (planet Venus) and the Köe Mbiya (dawn) are part of this Guarani ceremonial ritual, which is performed every year.
The Guarani ceremony itself will begin at 21:00, with the Guasu Earring; In a second part, the Guarani myth about the origin of creation will be shown. Finally, in the third part the ritual of the Morning Star will be performed. Admission is free.
The Ministry of Culture reported that they will have around 150 artists, including soloists, dancers and groups, who will perform in the celebration of the Morning Star. From 7:00 p.m. you can see the autochthonous ensembles: Chiquitano Los Primos, and Guarayo Urubichá; Mojeña and yuracaré dances, sarao and Afro-Bolivian saya.
Celebrations organized by the MAS
At 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 20th, in Plan 3,000the departmental and urban leadership of the MAS prepares a celebration with its social sectors and authorities of that party.
The departmental president of the MAS in Santa Cruz, Marco Fernández, in a press conference announced that there will be musical groups and that they will stay to wait for the first rays of the sun in the morning of Wednesday the 21st, to celebrate the year 5,531.
“It is part of our culture, it is part of our ancestors, it is part of our principles, of our great-grandparents, and we can never forget thatr. We will always continue in our main roots, where we have come from, from this country of ours,” said Fernández.
For his part, the MAS councilor Jorge Quiroz also invited the celebration that he is organizing in the Lots area. This will start at 4:00 on Wednesday 21. In this celebration there will be tamborita and tarqueada, which will interpret eastern and western rhythms, according to Quiroz.
“From 4:00 in the morning we will be present there, doing our ritual, delivering the offering to God, as the Incas say: “Tata Dios”; We are going to deliver (the offering), as the Incas did, so that there is a good production, a good harvest”, explained the councilor.
He also pointed out that in the country the New Year was always celebrated on these dates and that it was with the arrival of the Spanish that it was changed to January.
“It is our New Year, of all Bolivians, which is (the one that the ancestors always celebrated) (in June). The European New Year is on the first day of January.and for us it is June 21,” Quiroz explained.
