The arrest of Jesús Armas is due to “a pattern of persecution,” family members say

Relatives of Jesús Armas indicated that “he was forcibly entered into a van without license plates” and since 10:00 pm on Tuesday they have no information about his whereabouts. The relatives of former councilor Jesús Armas, kidnapped by hooded individuals on the night of December 10, reported his forced disappearance to the Public Ministry. They pointed out that it is due to “a pattern of persecution” by the authorities.

«Beyond a tweet or a particular statement, it is simply a pattern of persecution, curtailment of dissent and consolidation of State terrorism in Venezuela, which is expressed in the persecution of social and political leaders and human rights defenders. “humans,” said Sairam Rivas, the former councilor’s partner, in statements to the MP.

He explained that the political leader “was forcibly entered into a van without license plates” and since 10:00 pm they have had no information about his whereabouts. We call for his full and immediate freedom,” said Sairam Rivas.

He also pointed out that Armas “a week ago he was named in the program Con el Mazo giving, where a form called operation tun tún has been applied for a long time, where human rights and political activists are mentioned, then the State bodies attack they”.

Rivas indicated that the activist is asthmatic and suffers from frequent allergies, which is why he requires permanent medical treatment. “We hold the regime and the authorities of Venezuela responsible for anything that may happen to Jesús Armas with his health and integrity.”

During the delivery of the document, Sairam Rivas was accompanied by Jesús Armas and Amanda Monasterios, parents of the political leader, and the lawyer Eduardo Torres. Upon leaving the MP, he said that they received the document at reception and were informed that within 15 days they could have a response.

The relatives will also go to the Ombudsman’s Office to file a complaint about his disappearance, and they plan to insist on the Sebin Helicoide – where they presume he is detained – and other organizations such as the Dgcim to request information on his whereabouts.

UCV demands the release of Jesús Armas

The director of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Central University of Venezuela, Juan Carlos Apitz, demanded that Nicolás Maduro and Minister Diosdado Cabello immediately release Armas, who is part of the teaching staff at the School of Political Studies. and Administrative.

«He is an outstanding teacher and exemplary citizen. A Venezuelan who fights for the truth,” Apitz said in social networks. A group of Armas students also demanded his release. “We are missing 1, our teacher Jesús Armas. Liberation now!”

Jesús Armas chairs the NGOs Monitor Ciudad and Ciudadanía Sin Límites, from which they echo complaints about the lack of water and electricity in Caracas.

He was a councilor for Libertador between 2013 and 2018 and put his name to run for Mayor. He was part of the Primero Justicia party, where he held the position of vice president of Political Affairs, to which resigned in July 2023 to join the ranks of Vente Venezuela, founded by María Corina Machado.
