Regarding the serious acts of violence that keep a 35-year-old woman at risk of life, and for which an official of the Legal Medical Service (SML) of the Arica region has been charged under the figure of frustrated femicide, the National Directorate of the organization expressed its total condemnation and categorical rejection of this horrible crime.
The defendant, Ricardo Yévenes, who works as a psychiatrist in the Arica SML, was removed from his duties pending the results of the investigations and the clarification of his responsibility in the facts. In addition, a summary investigation was launched internally into this unfortunate event.

“The SML expresses all its willingness to collaborate in the corresponding investigations and will make available to the prosecution all the information that is required, as well as its technical and human resources that allow justice to be carried out in this case,” they said from the entity dependent on the Ministry Justice and Human Rights.
“As SML, we express to the family and friends of the victim our full support and willingness for whatever they need,” they added.
Additionally, they affirmed that absolutely all the necessary procedures will be carried out so that justice is done in this condemnable crime, “because in our Service there is no room for violence against women.”
It is worth mentioning that yesterday a new National Day Against Femicide was commemorated. According to figures from the Ministry for Women and Gender Equality, to date there have been 36 completed femicides and 159 frustrated femicides. However, these cases rise when reviewing the figures provided by the Chilean Network against Violence against Women, which according to its report, so far this year there have been 47 femicides.
