The Argentine Ariel Guarco is going for re-election in the International Cooperative Alliance

Ariel Guarco is going for re-election.

The current president of the International Cooperative Alliance (ACI), the Argentine Ariel Guarco, presented his candidacy to continue leading the entity, ahead of the election that will take place next Monday in Seville, Spain, during the organization’s General Assembly, which will renew 15 seats on the global Board of Directors.

“We want to continue contributing to the strengthening of the cooperative movement at a global level, putting the vast history and diversity of Argentine cooperatives at the service of a more supportive, more inclusive and peaceful world.Guarco stated regarding his candidacy.

Since 2017, the Guarco cooperative has led the ACI, an organization that represents more than 300 entities from 110 countries and has more than 120 years of history.

“We are part of a great family where the wide diversity of world cooperativism coexists, which is nothing other than the diversity of the human race gathered to carry out a fair, supportive and inclusive economy, where no one is left behind,” said the Argentine leader in a press release.

Guarco argued that this “paradigm shift” demonstrates the strength of the global movement, which today has more than a billion members associated with three million cooperatives.

To themselvesOur objectives for the next 4 years correspond to two central points: promote the Cooperative Identity as “the best path towards sustainable development”, and increase “the levels of incidence in international representation organizations”said the official statement released.

Among the nominees are Melina Morrison, nominated by the Business Council of Cooperatives and Mutuals, from Australia, and Jean-Louis Bancel, nominated by Coop Fr, from France.
