The president Luis Abinader On October 9, he ordered by decree the creation of a special commission to coordinate the administrative and legal processes related to the merger of the ministries of Education (Minerd) and Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt).

With decree number 580-24, the president gave a period of six monthsfrom the issuance of the twoposition, so that the merger of these entities is completed.

Given this measure, the president of the APEC Board of Directors, Carlos Ortega, said this Wednesday that he believes “that we must give it the necessary time for it to take shape and for the results that we as a country need.”

«Haste is your worst enemy, I believe that if it takes 6 months and is done well it is perfect, if it takes 4 years and is done well it is perfect, take the time you have to take so that at the end of the day “All of us buy it,” he said.

He also reiterated that “what interests us is that we have good professionals, if all this modification is going to allow us to have better professionals and better citizens.”

«We do not have the material in hand on how this merger is going to be carried out, it is very difficult to give an opinion and we would be practically assuming, perhaps very risky so it is understood that it has positive aspects, now we would have to see how it is going to happen, “What impact is it going to have,” he explained.

“If it benefits that student population at all levels, then obviously we would agree with it, but we don’t know how,” he added.

Ortega understands that “it would be a little hasty for us to express an opinion… if it is being done it is because there will be some benefit, now we do not know exactly what the benefits or challenges of the merger are.”

“A merger requires planning, it requires weighing cultural aspects and everything that we do not know to this day at the current time how they have planned to carry out this merger process,” he concluded.
