The APDH repudiated vandalism against Instituto Patria and threats against vice president

The presentation gives an account of the events that occurred on Thursday in the presence of members of the Police of the City of Buenos Aires.

The Buenos Aires regional of the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (APDH) expressed its “strongest repudiation” for the acts of vandalism registered on Thursday against the headquarters of the Patria Institute and the threats against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and demanded that a “pertinent investigation” be carried out to clarify the facts denounced.

“The CABA Region of the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights expresses its strongest repudiation of the acts of vandalism against the building of the Homeland Institute and the threats made against the Vice President of the Nation Cristina Fernández de Kirchner”said the agency’s statement.

Also, he pointed out that “We have seen in recent days attacks against Argentine institutions and democracy” that “they are the product of the hatred that state terrorism sowed in Argentina and that cost us 30,000 missing detained comrades, who are still present in our memory.”

The Patria Institute filed a criminal complaint for the possible commission of the crimes of “intimidation and death threats” to “the detriment of the Vice President of the Nation, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner”, in a document detailing other damages ” to property” and “failure to comply with the duties of officials”.

The presentation gives an account of the events that took place on Thursday in the presence of members of the Police of the City of Buenos Aires and was formulated by the lawyer in charge of the Patria Institute, Fernando Castiglioni.

Some “ten people broke into the sidewalk at 80 Rodríguez Peña Street, where the Patria Institute operates, and began to make violent death threats and intimidation against the vice president and all the members of the institution,” the lawyer remarked in his complaint.

And he pointed out: “The non-action or condescending action of the City Police with the aggressors, which are reflected in the videos that have been broadcast on the networks, show the surroundings of the Patria Institute as if it were a liberated zone.”

The APDH statement stated: “We will continue working so that Never Again remains an unshakable reality in the search for memory, truth and justice.”

On Thursday, demonstrators who identified themselves as “self-convened” threw garbage and kicked the doors of the Patria Institute headquarters while one of them threatened the vice president with death by “hanging” through a megaphone, in front of four members of the City Police who observed what was happening, without intervening.

The protest, which lasted for more than an hour, at one point blocked the street without anyone interrupting it, with successive threats along the lines of “We are going to hang you here, in front of the Patria Institute and, if not, in front of the Senate”, which were made by the person carrying the megaphone and who seemed to be leading the demonstration.

The phrases uttered called for the “armed forces define themselves” and proposed “search with machine guns to liquidate them at the moment and hang them”in reference to supporters of Kirchnerism, in a series of death threats that were recorded on video by a journalist who was passing by.

The death threats against the vice president, who has had offices in the Instituto Patria for several years, were added to the stone attack on the windows of her office in the Senate of the Nation on March 10 and a previous episode against the headquarters of the Kirchnerism of Rodríguez Peña street, in June 2021, while the symbol of the gallows has already appeared in several opposition marches with strong anti-Kirchnerist content.
