The ANMAT (National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology), prohibited, this Tuesday, the production and sale of an olive oil produced in the province of La Rioja.
The organism detailed that the product was considered illegal, after the ANMAT initiated an investigation after a consumer complaint to the Food Health and Nutrition Surveillance Department of the National Food Institute (INAL), which “raised doubts about the genuineness of the marketed product”.
Because of this, the ANMAT The Department of Food Hygiene of Mendoza made a query, which reported that no records were found that matched the extra virgin olive oil of first pressing and cold extraction, Olivares brand, produced and packaged by Finca Olivares.
Said records did not exist before the authorities of La Rioja, for which the Administration determined that “because it is a product that cannot be reliably and clearly identified as produced, elaborated and/or fractionated in a specific establishment, may not be made in any part of the country, nor marketed nor sold“.
This was established in provision 7210/2022, published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette, where it is stated that this oil turned out to be an “illegal product” because “it did not have establishment and product records.”
The oil that was prohibited is “Extra Virgin Olive Oil of first pressing and cold extraction, Olivares brand, Net Cont.: 500 ml, Lot: 082021, Due: AUG 2023, Elaborated and Packaged by FINCA OLIVARES, pcia. of La Rioja, RNE:13-000140-1 – RNPA:025010259”.
Said product may not be manufactured or marketed anywhere in the country, both in physical establishments and through digital platforms, as ordered by the agency.
The ANMAT prohibited another oil
Just two weeks ago the administration which regulates food and various mass consumption products, made the decision to ban the classic extra virgin olive oil of the Nucete brand, since it did not comply with current regulations.
After initiating an investigation into the complaint of a consumer who claimed to have intestinal problems after ingesting the product, it was possible to corroborate that the denounced brand falsified the firm Agro Aceitunera SAso the oil was withdrawn from the market.
