The alleged author of the massive outrage that occurred in Havana 10 days agowho caused death to a woman and injuries to eight people, is an Italian citizen resident in Cuba, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The man, appointed Mario Pontolillo and 56 years of age, has permanent residence in the country and is currently serving provisional prison. Is investigated for “murder crimes and others”, according to A note from the entity published this Thursday.
The Prosecutor’s Office, which so far had not ruled on the case – despite the claims of citizenship so that the identity of the alleged aggressor was officially revealed – ensures that Pontolillo is also prohibited from abandoning the Cuban territory while investigating “the deliberate run over people with the car he was driving”.
The incident, occurred in public roads of the municipalities Centro Habana and Havana Vieja, caused “the death of a woman, injuries to several people and affectation to collective security,” confirms the official entity.
Initially it was reported that the deceased in the event, which occurred at 2:30 in the morning of Monday, August 25, was a 35 -year -old woman, who died shortly after being hospitalized. Eight other people also suffered injuries, although of less gravity.
In his note, the Prosecutor’s Office does not provide details of the victims, but states that “instruction proceedings are practiced for the contribution of the evidence and the culmination of investigations.”
In addition, he points out that “he will exercise the public criminal action before the court” for the judgment of Pontolillo, “with respect to the rights and guarantees that consecrate the Constitution and the laws.”
He also points out that the alleged author of the run over will be asked for “sanctions in correspondence with the seriousness of the facts and the circumstances in which they occurred, on which it will be reported with opportunity”.
