justice ordered preventive detention, for 90 days, in the Palmasola prison for Grober Fernández Andrade, who was accused of cover up and help his brother escape Saúl, a police sergeant who ran over three people, one of them lost his life.
His precautionary hearing took place this afternoon at the Villa Primero de Mayo Court. The Prosecutor’s Office and the legal defense of the victims requested that be put in jail, because they accused him of helping the fugitive policeman to set fire to the van that caused the two accidents.
However, Grober once again reiterated his innocence arguing that he was not with his brother when he was driving and ran over the victims. Furthermore, when he was apprehended on Tuesday, he admitted to the media that he helped remove the police uniform from the motor vehicle that was burned.
“I am innocent, my brother should be here. I was working when the events happened. They arrested me only for complicity, for taking (his brother’s) uniform out of the vehicle,” he told the media during his presentation at the Departmental Traffic Department.
Romel Ipamo, lawyer for the relatives of the motorcycle taxi driver who was run over, said that the court ordered the defendant’s detention for 90 days because he did not undermine the procedural risks escape and obstruction, in addition to the fact that there are indications that suggest his guilt in the case under investigation.
“There are elements that prove the probability of authorship in the fact investigated and that he has helped (his brother) to make him flee,” he said.
For his part, the departmental director of Transit, Carlos Oporto, showed the photograph of the fugitive sergeant and asked the population provide information about his whereabouts, to help clarify the death of motorcyclist Jesús Andrés Reyes.
“The fugitive driver who is being sought by the Police is Saúl Fernández Andrade”. the police chief specified. Likewise, he said that the Prosecutor’s Office was asked to request an immigration alert against him, to prevent him from fleeing the country.
