The airport of the Republic of Children in the city of La Plata was renamed as of this Wednesday ‘Hero platense de Malvinas’ Juan Jose Arraras‘, in tribute to the Argentine Air Force pilot who died on June 8, 1982 during the war in the archipelago, was officially reported.
During the act, organized by the Commission of Homage and Memory for the Heroes and Ex-Combatants of the Malvinas, a tribute plaque was also placed in the Airport building and a replica of the bust of Arrarás that is located in the Castelli de La Plata Park.
The head of the Commission, Federico Gómez, affirmed that “this homage has a special value because Arrarás is a hero who was anonymous for many years and, thanks to this action that we are promoting, from today he will occupy a visible place in our history and our memory around Malvinas“.
Within the framework of recognition of Arrarás, a traveled by the Boeing 737 plane, the aircraft in which on April 13, 1982 the soldiers from La Plata departed from the 7th Regiment to the Malvinas Islands and which in 2017 was transferred to the Children’s Republic.
“This initiative is part of a broad agenda of activities that we are developing from the Commission of Homage to 40 years of Malvinas in order to advance in the process of building local memory around the Malvinas issue,” said Gómez.
In this context, from April 2 to June 25, the Municipality of La Plata will carry out a varied schedule of proposals that aims to recall, make visible and build memory.
As reported, there will be acts of tribute and remembrance to the heroes of the Malvinas and ex-combatants Plaques and monuments will be presented in different parts of the city, and informative talks will be given in various establishments.
