López Tarso was born in Mexico City on January 15, 1925. According to the Ministry of Public Education, “at the age of 24, in 1949, he entered the School of Fine Arts Theater and had among his teachers Xavier Villaurrutia, Salvador Novo, Celestino Gorostiza, Clementina Otero, Fernando Torre Laphane and Francisco Monterde. He belonged to the Autonomous Student Theater group directed by Xavier Rojas”.
His political life
He served as a federal deputy from September 1, 1988 to August 31, 1991 and a member of the Radio, Television and Cinematography Commission of the Federal District and of Culture.
The two-time Ariel Award winner, he was also President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Interpreters from 1980 to 1984; as well as General Secretary of the National Association of Actors from 1986 to 1990 and of the Union of Film Directors and Similar of the Mexican Republic, according to the country’s government archives.
López Tarso has also expressed his opinion about the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whom he referred to as “the eternal candidate for the presidency”, alluding to the times he has contested for space in the National Palace (2006, 2012 and 2018).
