From a list of 149 countries, the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (Pro Dominicana) records statistics that show that products were exported to 135 nations during 2020. This number of countries was maintained in 2021, when the exports Totals reached US$ 11,831.53 million.
Of the 135 countries, Kenya, Togo, Kuwait, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Slovenia, Armenia, Myanmar, Tanzania and Liberia are the 10 destinations to which the Dominican Republic exported in the least proportion during 2020.
For example, to Kenya the country sent US$0.01 million during 2020. The products that arrived in this country were rags of all kinds of textile material, as well as cords, ropes and cables, of textile material, in waste or in useless articles, unclassified.
Also, hair preparations (excludes shampoos, permanent waving or straightening preparations, hair sprays).
According to data from Pro Dominicana, two companies export to Kenya and the value of what was sent during 2020 reached US$6,452.48.
Like Kenya, the countries Togo, Kuwait, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Slovenia and Armenia received products valued at US$0.01 million during 2020. In the case of Slovenia, during 2020 the Dominican Republic exported games with screens, “flippers” and other games activated with coins, bank notes, chips or other similar items (excludes automatic bowling games “bowlings”) valued at US$11,199.60.
Changes in 2021
In 2021, the landscape changed. Last year, of the 135 countries that are destined for the exports Dominican Republic, Mongolia, Albania, Marshall Islands, Macedonia, Nepal, US Overseas Islands, Liberia, Palestine and Algeria, are the places where Dominican products arrived the least.
Now, what arrives in Mongolia from the Dominican Republic? According to data published by Pro Dominicana, a single company exported in 2021 to Mongolia, a country where fewer products arrived from the Dominican last year.
The products shipped are: footwear with a rubber or plastic sole and upper, with a protective metal toe cap (excludes waterproof footwear of a specific item and sports, orthopedic and doll footwear). These merchandise had a value of US$5,934.23.
The other destination where the Dominican Republic made less exports last year it was Albania. To this European nation, a company sent long pants, bib overalls, shorts and shorts, made of synthetic fibers, for men or boys (excludes knitwear, underpants and swim pants).
In addition, “pure” cigars, including blunt cigars and “little cigars”, containing tobacco, were exported from the Dominican Republic to Albania. All merchandise shipped to Albania had a total value of US$7,395.77.
Also, Dominican products arrive in the Marshall Islands, which is in Oceania, the smallest continent in the world. A company from the Dominican Republic ships cigarettes containing tobacco. During 2021 the exports to this destination reached US$11,600.00.
The exports totals reached US$11,831.53 million during 2021, of which 50.01% (US$5,916.55 million) had the United States as the main destination. 8.13% (US$961.46 million) went to Switzerland.
Instead, in 2020 the exports totals were located at US$9,844.75 million.
