TEPJF considers it conflicting to change the rules before the World Cup or the elections

With a soccer analogy, the presiding magistrate of the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón, ruled in favor of preserving the rules for the 2024 electoral process, and not changing them before such an important event, because in that case there will be more litigation.

By expressing his option for reforms gradual, prudent and reasonablecommented:

“The pertinent thing is not to arrive at the World Cup with new rules or with rules that are going to generate interpretations that we do not know and more litigation; the World Cup, let’s say, could be the elections of the 24th, which must be reached with rules that were already applied in the leagues in Europe, America and then, in the selection processes of who goes to the World Cup, there it is adjusted.

But hey, sometimes not even in football we agree what should be the relevant moment to apply changes.

During a signing of agreements between the TEPJF, the government of Monterrey, Nuevo León, and the Mexican Association of Electoral Prosecutors, he spoke of the importance of unity among Mexicans.

There is no room for the divisions that weaken democratic causes and claim the fragility of institutions.

In the same way, faced with problems in this area, the solution is to apply more democracynot just institutional or legal changes.

These (changes) in any consolidated democracy occur gradually, prudently, reasonably, with a broad, in-depth analysis and with the participation and consensus of all political forces.he underlined.

He stressed that electoral justice does change realities and does generate conditions of social peace.

What is the value of that? We do not know, because fortunately our democracy has traveled peaceful paths in the past 30 yearsheld.
