The Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) reached its maximum tension after the decision by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to recognize the arcist Grover García as president of the ruling party and thus displacing Evo Morales. There are threats, insults and even Evism’s intention to go to the 2025 general elections with another electoral acronym.
The legal team of the evista faction of the MAS, through lawyer Wilfredo Chávez, reported yesterday that it will present a series of legal actions to prevent that political organization be stripped from former President Evo Morales.
“We have to exhaust the means of challenging before the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), We are going to ask that you notify us with everything (your resolution), then we are going to ask for clarification, supplementation and amendment. On the other hand, we are going to enable the extraordinary appeal for review with the certifications that will be requested and then an action for constitutional protection,” Wilfredo Chávez stated yesterday.
Also yesterday, Evo Morales questioned the decision made by the electoral body to abide by a controversial ruling of the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP), which recognized the arcist congress of the MAS) held in El Alto and where Grover García was elected as the new president of the fractional ruling party.
“By statute of the MAS, approved by the TSE, only the president of the MAS can call a congress, and I did not call the El Alto congress; “It is proven that, by statute, by law and the Constitution, Evo continues to be president of the MAS-IPSP,” Morales said in an interview with radio Kawsachun Coca.
There was joy on the Arcist side. García, together with the leaders of sectors related to Luis Arce, celebrated the decision of the TSE and the TCP and announced that today they will enter the national headquarters of the MAS, which is in the city of La Paz. The leader also assured that he will now begin a renewal process in the ruling party.
“We are going to call departmental congresses, we are going to call the organic congress, the organic congress for our militants is very important because there we are going to update our statutes and regulations, according to the militants, to the new generations, new leaders, they have cut off the fundamental rights of the youth and new leaders, He said that one of the points was that 10 years of militancy had to be there and that it was a lot for our new generations,” García stated.
Meanwhile, President Arce himself called to democratize and renew the MAS. “Now it is the task of all the militancy, of the original indigenous peasant and worker social organizations, of the students, of the professionals, and the people in general to work for the unity, democratization and renewal of our Political Instrument,” the president published on social networks.
For its part, Arcist leader Fidel Surco spoke of “cleaning up” in the legislative bench of the MAS and announced the “expulsion of traitor legislators.”
