The criminal situation became so delicate that on Tuesday the schools and shops in the area remained closed for fear of clashes during the wake and burial of the victims, which caused the area to be taken over by a police contingent made up of units fast action, SWAT team and motorized patrols.
Despite yesterday’s police deployment throughout the sector, no surveillance was observed today, and as if that were not enough, the Mata de los Indios elementary school was still closed.
The dead were identified as the raso of police Carlos Manuel Núñez de la Cruz, Yorki Otaño and Víctor Manuel Marte Martínez (Muñecón), who were shot to death. Among the wounded are Army private Aldo José Susana Heredia and civilians Darison Núñez, Juan Ferrand Brazobán, a 17-year-old adolescent and a minor, who were taken to the Ney Arias Lora hospital.
police version
The Police reported that they maintain “absolute control” of the Vietnam community, in San Felipe de Villa Mella, where three people were killed and five wounded on Sunday during a shootout at the El Nuevo Amanecer grocery store.
The information was released by the institution’s spokesman, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, who denied that “criminal gangs” looted businesses and homes, as published by some media and circulated on social networks.
He indicated that due to the tragic event that is under investigation by the Public Ministry there are seven detainees and another was subjected to the action of justice for the corresponding purposes.
He stated that the conflict originated from an inheritance and that all those involved belong to the same family, as revealed by the investigations.
Pesqueira said that the Police guarantees the security of all citizens and properties and that at the same time “we are denying that in this tragedy there have been looting of businesses as published by some media and social networks.”
He clarified that during the funeral procession, guarded by police officers, some businesses closed their doors as a precaution and that once it happened they reopened.
“Ill-intentioned people told facts that have nothing to do with what happened in the Vietnam community, so I ask society to consult the Police before giving credibility to a fact,” he said.
