Tender for the Punta Gorda parador and hotel

Tender for the Punta Gorda parador and hotel

The National Director of Tourism, Cristian Pos, confirmed that the Ministry of Tourism plans to call for public bidding in November for the concession of the Parador and Hotel Punta Gorda, located in the paradisiacal area of ravines, at the confluence of the Uruguay and De la Plata Rivers, Nueva Palmira, department of Colonia.

“The tender should go out in November,” Pos said in dialogue with EL ECO, and explained that no formal proposals have yet been received. “No, he has spoken with the Ministry. Until the bidding documents come out, it is not our place to talk about interested parties.”

Asked about the current state of the facilities, the leader indicated that the place is in acceptable conditions. “The gastronomy part is not that it is in bad condition, but that whoever enters will have to do so with their own proposal,” he said. Regarding the hotel area, he assured that “everything is well equipped, perfect.”

When asked how long the concession would be for, he responded that “this is established by the general management based on specific regulations and criteria.”

The Parador and Hotel Punta Gorda was managed by the PIT-CNT after a transfer from the Ministry of Tourism in 2018. The union made a strong investment in the building that was in a situation of abandonment, renovated it, equipped both the hotel and restaurant areas, and heated the pool. In August of this year it was returned to the Portfolio, despite the fact that the concession was for 25 years.

The demand to the PIT-CNT

Union member Gabriel Melgarejo, who was in charge of coordinating the transfer, as when the closure occurred in August, told EL ECO that they had to “return the building to the Ministry because sufficient resources were not generated; the numbers were in red.”

Regarding the 1,000,000 peso lawsuit filed by former worker Diego Tato against the PIT-CNT, sponsored by lawyer Alba Berreta – a fact recently published by Montevideo Portal -, Melgarejo responded to EL ECO that he had no comments “on the lawsuit. We presented the corresponding settlement and the former worker has the right to claim what he understands is appropriate. It is already an issue between lawyers and we will abide by what justice dispose.”
