After the evaluation of proposals, ten initiatives in the agri-food sector in eastern Cuba will receive financing from the European Union.
It is about the first call of the project “Support for new economic actors for economic, innovative and sustainable diversification” (NAE), promoted by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The proposals come from Las Tunas, Holguín, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamoand were selected for their capacity for productive articulation, economic sustainability, inclusion of women and youth, and the incorporation of renewable energy and waste management.
In total, 91 ventures participated in this first call: 51 MSMEs and 40 local development projects.
Of them, Four MSMEs and six local projects were chosenevaluated by an independent panel of experts under criteria of confidentiality and impartiality.

He NAE project seeks to strengthen the business fabric in the territories and support job creation in strategic sectors, providing access to equipment, material resources and technical assistance.
Implemented together with the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, the Central Bank of Cubaand other national institutions, the program aims to promote sustainable economic diversification in the country.
According to the organizers, in the coming months new calls will be opened for the entire national territory, with priority in areas such as sustainable agri-food systems, renewable energies, ICTs and cultural and creative industries.
