Temucuicui spokesperson on incident during the visit of Minister Siches: "It is an action that should not have been carried out"

The spokesperson for the Temucuicui community, Michael Carbonereferred to the visit made by the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Sichesto the region of La Araucanía, which was marked by the incident that involved a burned car and shots fired into the air near the ministerial delegation.

The reason why the head of the Interior went to Temucuicui was to meet with Marcelo Catrillancafather of the murdered community member, Camilo Catrillanca. Faced with this, the spokesman for the community clarified that he “had the permission so that they could visit him as a family member.”

The fact has been condemned by different political sectors, including lawsuits against the alleged perpetrators. Despite this, the Government confirmed that it will not renew the State of Constitutional Exception in the south of the country.

“It’s unfortunate that many people take advantage”

The werken pointed out in an interview to Third who considers that both the Mapuche world and the Government have made this a “media show”.

“We are an independent community, originating here from the territory of Temucuicui and yesterday’s presence in the visit to Marcelo Catrillanca, we support it, first of all. The Catrillanca family has the right to continue searching for the truth, justice for our brother Camilo Catrillanca who was killed, and Marcelo Catrillanca has the absolute support of the traditional community of Temucuicui to continue with that process,” Carbone said.

Along the same lines, he stated that “absolutely nothing was being done here in secret, here there was something formal. We do not claim, first of all, the representativeness of an entire people because we are broad, we are diverse and as such, we do not we can do”.

“With all this, it is clear that everything was improvised, but Marcelo Catrillanca had the permission to be able to enter and that they could visit him as a family,” he added.

Also, he detailed what the event generated for the community: “It is unfortunate that many people take advantage and make unnecessary speculations with a double meaning. In one sense, causing the internal distancing of two communities (the two Temucuicui) and I think that should not I see that there is a lot of ill-intentioned leadership, which is why we want to clarify it: this was a situation purely to visit the Catrillanca family, which has lost a member of its nucleus, and we support it because it was a member of our nucleus “.

Define protocols with other communities

Despite everything that the fact has generated, Carbone was clear in indicating that “it is an action that should not have been carried out. The traditional authorities have to come out, the great leaders saying what the channels are, but if we talk about protocols to oppose the entry of people like the government, who came yesterday, I think the action is not justified”.

“Because of the fact that the Traditional Community of Temucuicui gave Marcelo Catrillanca free access with the entourage so that they could reach the community and visit the place where Camilo Catrillanca was murdered,” he added.

On the other hand, the spokesman also stated that he spoke with other communities so that the defined protocols are respected. “If we talk about protocols, first the protocol is respected internally. We cannot show a protocol to the outside, when we do not practice it. This is a situation that leaves us thinking and we are still in talks,” he said.

“Invitations have been sent to the other communities (Temucuicui Autónoma, led by the Huenchullán family) to be able to have a serious and responsible conversation. And I believe that it is the only way to be able to advance as a people, as a nation, because if we are calling the division we as Mapuche are not going to do anything at all,” he said.

Remember that on Wednesday, the ancestral authority of the Autonomous Community of Temucuicui, Víctor Queipul, expressed to Interference that the entourage did not respect the Mapuche protocols to visit the community, warning that “if they want to talk with the Malleco communities they must go through me, otherwise they will find surprises.”
