América Móvil reported this Monday that, after a broad dialogue
its subsidiary Telmex reached an agreement with the Telephone Operators Union of the Mexican Republic regarding retirement conditions (pensions) for newly hired personnel hired by the telephone company as of January 2023.
In a statement, he explained that the agreement reduces the maximum retirement benefit for workers from 80 to 60 percent of their last salary integrated with certain benefits; In addition, retirement will be for those workers who have 35 years of service and have reached the age of 65.
It should be noted that the union’s current contractual terms allow a worker who completes 35 years of service to access retirement without requiring a specific age limit.
However, under the new agreement signed between the company and the union, the only exception to access retirement before age 65 will be that the worker has 37 years of service or more and has a minimum age of 60 years.
In July of last year, the telephone operators union went on strike for the first time in 37 years, claiming alleged violations of the collective bargaining agreement and for Telmex’s failure to create new jobs, after a series of changes by the company in 2020.
The new agreement between the union and the company includes the possibility that active and retired Telmex workers can convert part of their pension liabilities into shares representing Telmex’s capital stock, although this share plan will be voluntary.
The telephone company emphasized that the new agreement will allow Telmex to continue with its important investment program in infrastructure through which in recent years it has achieved substantial penetration in high-capacity fiber, which allows it to offer its customers the best services. .
