The race to name the next National Prosecutor continues after the rejection in the Senate of the last name proposed by President Gabriel Boric, the lawyer Marta Herrera. Now the step is for the Supreme Court to draw up a new quina, from which a new name proposed by the President will come out.
The government is not in the mood for a third consecutive failure of the name that they propose to the Upper House. For this reason, negotiations began before the Supreme Court to create a new machine completely from scratch. That is, that the contest is repeated. However, these steps are being carried out by President Boric himself and not by the head of the ministry that has the closest relationship with the Supreme Court, that of Justice, commanded by Minister Marcela Ríos, which exposes the weakness of the head of said portfolio. in front of the court.
According to what was revealed in the last hours, “high levels” of the Judiciary revealed that the Head of State communicated with the president of the Supreme Court, Juan Eduardo Fuentes, to discuss the possibility of developing a new quina .

Notwithstanding the foregoing, President Gabriel Boric sent an official letter to the Supreme Court to continue with the election process of the new National Prosecutor and complete –for the second time– the quina.
The document in question maintains that “with respect to the aforementioned article 85 of the Political Constitution of the Republic, it provides that when the Senate does not approve the proposal made, the Supreme Court must complete the quina according to the provisions of our letter Constitution and Law No. 19,640, Constitutional Organic of the Public Ministry”.
In this way, the highest court must replace the name of Marta Herrera in the quina, which is made up of the Aysén Regional Prosecutor, Carlos Palma; Regional Prosecutor of Ñuble, Nayalet Mansilla; the current National Prosecutor (s), Juan Agustín Meléndez; and the lawyer Ángel Valencia.
