Telegram signs agreement to join the TSE program

STF gives Telegram 24 hours to comply with determinations and avoid blocking

Telegram signed this Friday (25) a term of adhesion to the Permanent Program to Combat Misinformation in the Scope of Electoral Justice, promoted by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The partnership aims to combat false content related to the electoral process and the electronic voting system.

The agreement has no financial implications between Telegram and the TSE. By the term, the messaging application undertakes to maintain the necessary secrecy about the information to which it has access or knowledge within the scope of the TSE, unless otherwise authorized by the court.

Google, WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Kwai already participate in the program, as well as verification agencies, political parties, among others.

The program focuses on expanding the dissemination of official information about the October elections. Other initiatives include the exclusion of manifestly untrue content, considered harmful to the normal course of the lawsuit.

Block

The partnership was signed after Telegram appointed its representative in Brazil, lawyer Alan Campos Elias Thomaz. The measurement was taken after the Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), has blocked the application from working in the countryon the grounds that the platform had not complied with previous court orders.

On Saturday (20), Moraes revoked the. The minister said he had received a manifestation from Telegram informing him of compliance with previous orders, which included blocking accounts on the app and eliminating fake messages, as well as adopting various measures to combat the spread of fake news and disinformation.
