Executive reinforces commitment to psychosocial well-being and mental health
Within the strategic lines planned for the current year, the Minister of Social Development Alejandro Sciarra highlighted in Melo, the continuity of the coordinated work in order to collect data, as support to guide actions. This Mental Health care center that is enabled in Melo is a joint initiative between the organization and the National Institute of Statistics (INE), a new national survey of adolescence and youth will be carried out, with an exclusive chapter on mental health.
A third axis of work involves the training of adult references for whom online training will be provided, with a second module that will deepen previous learning instances on the subject.
800 WORKSHOPS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY
In terms of “social mobilization”, the leader pointed out that it is expected to carry out 800 workshops and activities throughout 2024.
Sciarra said that, in coordination with Unicef, these seven direct care centers in mental health promotion and prevention will provide therapeutic support to people between 14 and 24 years old, with the estimate of reaching 35,000 young people after one year of operation.
The aforementioned devices are located in the departments of Cerro Largo, Río Negro, Florida, Rocha, and in three points of Montevideo and the metropolitan area: Las Piedras, Canelones and the Social Policy Reference Center installed in Casavalle.
During the activity, Minister Sciarra recalled that mental health has been a priority for the current government administration, which has been demonstrated through the resources and impulse from the authorities and Parliament.
He recalled that it is transformed into a State policy, which gives a perspective for the future and much greater progress,” while calling for work on more effective prevention, to “make a difference.”
In the same sense, he highlighted the importance of early detection and “timely intervention” as part of promoting mental and behavioral health.
