A 16 year old teenager who was shot in the head after municipal guards dispersed a funk dance in Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo, he died last Saturday (3).
In a statement, the city of Guarulhos reported that he was declared brain dead and that his family agreed to donate his organs.
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 28 and 29, on Jequitibá Street, in Jardim Monte Alegre, where a funk dance was taking place. According to the city of Guarulhos, the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) was called to disperse a funk dance after receiving complaints from residents. When the officers arrived at the scene, stones and other objects were reportedly thrown by the crowd.
Images circulating on social media showed that, after the arrival of the GCM, there was confusion at the scene with the use of tear gas and a stampede.

The city government reported that, during the dispersal, the GCM had only used non-lethal ammunition. However, according to the São Paulo Public Security Department (SSP), two people were shot with firearms at the time: the 16-year-old teenager, who was hit in the head, and another 25-year-old man, who was injured. It is not yet known where the shots that hit the two victims came from.
The case – initially registered as bodily harm and attempted murder – is being investigated by the 4th Police District of Guarulhos. “The police authority is analyzing the images and carrying out investigations to clarify all the circumstances of the facts”, said the SSP, in a statement.
The names of the victims have not yet been released. In December 2019nine young people died at a funk dance in the Paraisópolis community, in the south of São Paulo, after a police operation at the scene. The episode became known as the Paraisópolis Massacre.
