The teachers unionized in the Uruguayan Federation of Teachers claim that “it was not resolved” the access of water for schools that they do not have a dining room and that Primary School must guarantee access to all children.
After a meeting this Friday, the union issued a statement calling for “access to water to be guaranteed in all affected schools, not just those that have a dining room.” “This situation was not resolved with the delivery of an item for school addresses as defined by the DGEIP, since there is no possibility of purchasing to cover the needs of one school per day due to the high market demand.”
On the other hand, they pointed out that the experts maintain that reusing water “is not a recommended practice, because it concentrates a greater amount of sodium.” This is in response to a recommendations guide carried out by Primary and which was published by El Observador in recent days.
Faced with the drinking water crisis, Primary School authorized this week the purchase of bottled mineral water in schools in Montevideo and Canelones. The money items, which according to the authorities would be available from Tuesday afternoon, are exclusively for the preparation of food, the glass of milk and the glass of water for children who have lunch included. The School Feeding Program recommended optimizing its use.
“Take care of the necessary proportion of water in food preparation (two to one for rice, three to one for pasta, do not strain the rice and reuse the pasta water)”, detailed the unofficial guide that was commented to the inspectors of the three areas of Montevideo and the three of Canelones with the aim of reaching each educational center.
