Hundreds of teachers from Santa Cruz, Beni, Potosí, Chuquisaca and La Paz, among other regions, came to La Paz to demand a salary increase, a new provision of items and biosecurity for schools.

The march left yesterday from the Senkata area of El Alto and arrived almost at noon in the center of La Paz. “We will reach the facilities of the Ministry of Education to demand that the authorities listen to our demands,” said one of the representatives of the sector.

In the afternoon, the teachers tried to enter the Ministry of Education, they almost managed to break the security fence, but they were gassed by the Bolivian Police.

In the place, after the confrontation, the teachers installed a vigil.

The national government summoned the urban teachers to a dialogue table, scheduled for today, at 4:00 p.m. The representatives of this sector indicated that they analyze the invitation of the Executive.

“We demand that the Government send us a proposal (…). Tomorrow (today) we will define more pressure measures”, said Leandro Mamani, representative of the urban teachers.

The Minister of Education, Edgar Pary Chambi, reported yesterday that so far this year, the Government has assigned 3,300 items. In addition, the authority summoned the leaders of the urban teachers to the dialogue table.

He recalled that in the 2021 administration, thanks to the diligence carried out by President Luis Arce, 1,700 items were assigned. “Surely it is very little, but this shows that our government is addressing the problem of items in accordance with our economic growth,” said the minister.
