More than 198,000 Panamanians registered in the electoral roll of the capital district will have to sign the petition for the revocation of the mandate in order to initiate a process against Mayor José Luis Fábrega.

The Electoral Court (TE), through the Electoral Organization Directorate, certified through Resolution No. 02-DROEPC/DJ of April 1, 2022, that the official figure that represents 30% for the revocation of the mayor’s mandate Fábrega is 198 thousand 920 voters.

The recall initiative was presented on March 3, by the lawyer Roberto Ruíz Díaz.

On March 14, lawyer Carlos Carrillo filed an appeal in which he argued that the Electoral Court (TE) violated Fábrega’s fundamental guarantees, since article 500 of the Electoral Code points out that no authority can deal with more than one request for the revocation of a mandate by popular initiative at the same time, and the TE is already processing a request in this regard presented by Raúl Ricardo Rodríguez.
