The Federal Audit Court (TCU) presented to ministers of the Jair Bolsonaro government the members of the committee of the body that will monitor the transition process to the government of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who will take office on January 1, 2023. They participated in the meeting at the TCU headquarters, on the morning of today (3), the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, and the Chief Minister of the Civil House of the Presidency, Ciro Nogueira.
On behalf of the TCU, the current president of the Court, Minister Bruno Dantas, who coordinates the committee, and Minister Antonio Anastasia, who will be the rapporteur for this follow-up process, were present at the meeting. The group also includes ministers Vital do Rêgo, rapporteur for the President of the Republic’s 2023 accounts, and Jorge Oliveira, rapporteur for the 2022 accounts.
“There is, of course, great receptivity on the part of the current government team, which wants to provide information, and I believe that this will go very smoothly and peacefully,” Minister Anastasia said in an interview with journalists after the meeting.
According to him, the role of the court will be to enforce the legislation and ensure that the information “flows in a timely manner, at the appropriate time and that it is in fact what was requested”.
This is the first time that the TCU has formed a commission to monitor the transition process between governments. The transition process takes 90 days.
According to legislation, it is transition period that the team of the current government provides information on the progress of the country’s administration to a team appointed by the president-elect. The terms are set out in Law No. 10,609, of 2002and not Decree 7,221 of 2010. Among this information is, for example, the economic issue such as expenses, debts and revenues from the Union’s coffers.
Still todaythe acting president of the TCU, Bruno Dantas, receives the vice president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin, who is responsible for coordinate the new government’s transition team.
The beginning of the transition acts depends on a request from the team that will assume the Presidency. Thus, this afternoon, Alckmin also meets with Ciro Nogueira and Paulo Guedes, at Palácio do Planalto.
