TC will review this Thursday “unconstitutionality” of seven pardons granted by President Gabriel Boric

This coming Thursday, March 16, and after months of suspense, the Constitutional Court (TC) will review seven of the 12 pardons delivered by President Gabriel Boric to those convicted of crimes in the context of the social outbreak and to ex-frontist Jorge Mateluna.

On that December 30, 2022, the President would make one of the most complicated decisions and one that brought the greatest problems to his administration: having granted the benefit of pardon to a series of those convicted of crimes in the framework of the social revolt of 2019.

The decision motivated a series of actions by the opposition, who -at that time- withdrew indefinitely from the security table promoted by the Executive, which sought, among other things, to take charge of the crisis that the country is going through on that theme.

It should be remembered that during the month of January, the Plenary of the Constitutional Court declared admissible -unanimously- seven requests for unconstitutionality against the pardons delivered by the Head of State. Action presented by senators from Chile Vamos and Democrats.

The Constitutional Court will review the case starting at 09:30 this Thursday.
