The Tayrona stops its activities for two weeks to allow environmental tasks and indigenous rituals that seek to renew the ecosystem.
From October 19 to November 2, the Tayrona National Natural Park will suspend all its tourist activities as part of the “Breathe Tayrona” strategy.an annual measure that seeks to give ecosystems a break and strengthen the cultural and spiritual connection with the territory. This will be the last closing day of the year 2025.
During this period, called “Nabbatashi” by the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Martathe time of renewal of nature is celebrated. During this time, the trees green up, migratory birds arrive and turtle nesting begins, phenomena that reflect the environmental recovery that is promoted with the temporary closure of the park.

Indigenous peoples will take advantage of these days to carry out payments and other traditional practices at sacred sites.in order to protect biodiversity and maintain harmony with the natural environment. These activities, according to their worldview, are fundamental for the conservation of the territory and for strengthening spiritual and cultural ties with the Sierra Nevada.
Simultaneously, the park rangers will carry out monitoring and research work on fauna and flora.in addition to implementing management, prevention and control measures within the protected area. Security conditions and conservation strategies will also be reviewed to ensure that the ecosystem maintains its balance after closure.
As part of the programming, the “History and Culture Meeting” will be helda community integration that reaches its sixth version under the motto “Restoring history.” This space seeks to strengthen the social appreciation of Tayrona Park and promote cultural exchange between local communities and visitors.
During the 15 days of suspension of ecotourism services, authorities invite travelers to explore other destinations in the Santa Marta regionwhile the park remains closed. The purpose of this pause is to guarantee that the Tayrona ecosystems regenerate and continue to be a reference for biodiversity and natural heritage of the Colombian Caribbean.
