More than $22 million dollars will be forgiven by the Mayor’s Office of the capital to taxpayers, as of August 15, when the municipality begins the moratorium for the payment of taxes.

According to Mayor José Luis Fábrega, the natural and legal taxpayers of the district of Panama may benefit from this moratorium for the exemption of surcharges and interest, as long as they do not have a payment arrangement or pending declarations to be presented.

The moratorium includes the exemption of 100% of surcharges, business items, advertising, vehicles and will last until November 30, 2022, time in which taxpayers may make payment arrangements or cancel the entire debt.

Mayor Fábrega said that around 46,000 taxpayers could benefit from this moratorium. However, he clarified that there are items that will not be included in this moratorium, such as tax fraud and vehicle fines.
