Taxi drivers announce strike for "rudeness" of the government

The taxi drivers union announced a new strike and cessation of activities for 30 days through a video published on social networks in which they report that the members of 22 departments of the country are going to suspend the provision of transportation services.

The announcement, which was made after the IV Congress of the Taxi Industry, which took place this Thursday in Medellín, emphasizes that there is a lack of real position of the National Government, the Superintendency of Transport and the Ministry of Transport regarding the illegality and informality in this type of services.

“We categorically reject the different rudeness that the National Government has made to the transport sector of our modality,” says one of the union leaders in the video.

They also indicate that unemployment that does not yet have a specific start dateis carried out as a way of demonstrating the rejection of any bill that has not been agreed with the transport sector before publishing or presenting it.

In this sense, they request the presentation of a special social security regime agreed with the sector.

In the same way, they say that the non-participation in the virtual dialogue tables proposed by President Gustavo Petro, is another of the reasons for this taxi driver strike day, since they assure that there is a “lack of compliance with the commitments agreed with the union.”
