The drivers of taxis and remises of Mar del Plata began this Friday a new measure of force, which will last until midnight and will include aNa mobilization and partial cut of Route 2 in the entrance and exit to the city against transport applications such as Uber and Cabify, while the mayor of General Pueyrredon, Guillermo Montenegro, described the measures as “mafia, extortion and tightening” and warned of fines and suspension of licenses.

The workers gathered around 12 at the intersection of 14 de Julio streets, between Libertad and Chacabuco, in this city, and an hour later they began to move through the streets of Mar del Plata until they reached the roundabout of the Mar del Plata international airport. to carry out a partial cut of Route 2.

The drivers parked their cars on the side of Route 2 and they began distributing pamphlets to motorists and truckers who circulate at the pace of a man in the area following the protest.

“We are demonstrating once again because the mayor Montenegro, who says he is a man of the law, does not enforce the city’s legislation that does not authorize digital applications such as Uber and/or similar to work in Mar del Plata”Pablo Sánchez, president of the Taxi Drivers Society

The president of the Taxi Drivers Society, Pablo Sánchez, said in statements to Télam: “We are demonstrating once again because the mayor Montenegro, who says he is a man of law, does not enforce the city’s legislation that does not authorize digital applications such as Uber and/or similar to work in Mar del Plata”.

“They treat us like extortionists, when five days before the first strike, which was last Tuesday, we asked them to sit down and talk, since we want you to control public transport; because we all know and it is easy to verify it as there are private cars that work for applications like Uber and Cabify”.

At the same time, he clarified: “We were never closed to dialogue, we always comply with everything that the commune asked of us and, to those who are working on the platforms that, according to current legislation, are not authorized, are working freely and do not are controlled.”

“We have heard from the mayor, that we are gangsters and extortionists, but we want to express to him that we are not, that we are from Mar del Plata and the only thing we ask is that he fulfill his function as a public official and enforce the current ordinances,” he sentenced.

From the local CGT they showed their support for taxi and remises drivers explaining that “they ask the local Executive Power to control and enforce the current legislation that prohibits applications. We see that the executive does not respect the ordinance that is in force.”

“We understand that applications like Uber or similar are illegal until there is a new municipal ordinance that allows them. We know that there is a project in the Council but they have not yet dealt with it,” they said.

For his part, before the start of the measure of force, the mayor of General Pueyrredon (JxC), gave a press conference and said that “the leadership of taxi drivers and remiseros carries out mafia, extortion and pressure actions” and “they take the population and tourists hostage to carry out their claims.”

“The method they are using is aligned with mafia practices of squeeze and extortion. It is unintelligible and irrational”William Montenegro

Montenegro also anticipated that “it will fine and suspend the licenses of those who join the cuts of any access to the city, be it Route 11, 2, 226 and 88.”

The communal head owner assured that the promoters of the protest seek to “put an entire city hostage in the best weekend of a season that is being successful and historic.”

“The method they are using is aligned with mafia practices of squeeze and extortion. The method they use is unintelligible and irrational,” said and insisted that “there will be sanctions for those who have the licenses and commit crimes” and recalled “whoever commits crimes is a criminal and therefore will have its consequences.”

Montenegro was accompanied at the press conference that he gave at the Operations and Monitoring Center (COM), by the president of the Deliberative Council, Marina Sánchez Herrero, and the presidents of the pro-government blocs, Agustín Neme (Vamos Juntos), Angélica González ( Civic Coalition) and Marianela Romero (UCR).
