Tax reform: these are the taxes that would rise on alcoholic beverages

Reforma fiscal: estos son los impuestos que subirían a las bebidas alcohólicas

As part of the tax transformation proposed by the Dominican government, the Minister of Finance, José Manuel “Jochi”, Vicente, reported that with regard to tax burdens on alcoholic beverages, the following measures are contemplated:

  • An increase in the specific tax per degree of alcohol so that it is RD$840
  • An increase in the ad-valorem tax applicable to alcoholic beverages to 11%

The new taxes proposed by the government were detailed during La Semanal con la Prensa, headed by President Luis Abinader, which takes place every Monday from the National Palace.

Vicente noted that with the proposals for tax reform “It is not an improvisation”and have been consulted with all sectors of the national economy.

With the project, which will be submitted to the National Congress, It also seeks to eradicate poverty, improve the quality of life for Dominicans, and avoid high levels of evasion.
