Tax collection had another drop in April

The real variation of VAT revenue with respect to the same month of the previous year indicated a fall of 7.8%

The collection of the General Tax Directorate (DGI) fell during the month of April, and in this way had its third drop in a row.

The total gross collection reached 51,288 million pesos in April 2023, with which, discounting the inflationary effect, the year-on-year variation in collection had a drop of 0.6%.

For its part, net collection, discounting the tax refund, reached 45,027 million pesos, with which the year-on-year fall in real terms was 1.7%, according to data from the DGI released last week.

The net collection corresponds to what was effectively collected by the DGI in money, while the gross collection shows the total amount of taxes that corresponded to pay in the period, said the agency.

“Total gross collection in the last three months has been showing negative year-on-year variations,” said the DGI’s Monthly Collection Report. In the rolling year ending in April, the variation was 2.3% in real terms. However, the real variation for the period January-April 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 indicated a drop of 1%, according to official data.

The path of each tax

When taking the evolution by taxes, the VAT collection reached 19,974 million pesos in April 2023, and thus represented 38.9% of the total gross collection. This consumption tax is the main tax collected by the entity.

The real variation in VAT collection compared to the same month of the previous year indicated a fall of 7.8%. Luckily, the actual year-to-date decline was 2.7% compared to the first four months of 2022.

In the rolling year, meanwhile, there was a 1.5% growth of this tax in real terms.

The collection of the IMESI (Internal Specific Tax) was 4,518 million pesos in April 2023, representing 8.8% of the total gross collection.

The real variation in relation to April 2022 was 31.8%, while in the moving year the fall was 2.6% real.

The real decrease of the IMESI for the period January-April 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 was 7.6%.

In the case of the IRAE (Income Tax on Economic Activities), the collection during the month of April was 11,908 million pesos in April 2023, which implied 23.2% of the total gross collection.

The real variation in relation to April of the previous year was 2.5%, while in the moving year it was 2.8% real. Meanwhile, for the January-April period of this year compared to the same period in 2022, the variation was 1.3%.

Lastly, IRPF (Personal Income Tax) collection reached 8,091 million pesos in April 2023, 15.8% of total gross collection.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the real fall was 5.8%, while in the moving year there was a variation of 4.9% in real terms. For its part, the real variation of the first four months of the year, compared to the same period of 2022, was 1.6%.
