The Argentine Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is among the three candidates to become the new Inter Miami coach of his compatriot Lionel Messi, reported the club’s owner, Jorge Mas.
Inter Miami fired coach Phil Neville on June 1 and handed over the bench to Javier Morales as interim coach.
In an interview published by the ‘Miami Herald’ newspaper, Mas assured that there are three candidates on the table and that Martino is one of them, without disclosing any other names.
Martino, 60, trained Messi at Barcelona in the 2013-2014 academic year and in the Argentine team.
He also has experience in MLS, having coached Atlanta United from 2016 to 2018 and having won the League in 2018.
Inter Miami is bottom team in the MLS East and suffered its sixth consecutive defeat this weekend against the New England Revolution.
Of course, he is a semifinalist of the US Open Cup.
