This Thursday (13) began the task force to vaccinate more than 8,000 indigenous people who live in areas of difficult access. The action will begin in the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM), in the Alto Rio Negro region. The teams will visit 11 villages for a period of 20 days.
Called Operation Gota 2023, it is a partnership between the Ministries of Health and Defense and should last until October, with immunization of communities in the Middle Solimões River and Affluents, Javari Valley, Upper Juruá River, Upper Purus River, Amapá, northern Pará and Middle Purus River.
According to the Ministry of Health, the areas were selected based on the following criteria: no access by road or waterway, more than five days of travel to reach the location, area without visitation or entry for more than six months of the year, barriers geographic and forest region that requires a professional to stay for more than four days without communication.
“Resuming high vaccination coverage is a priority for the Ministry of Health and actions in indigenous territories are aimed at recovering the vaccination rates of all immunizers in the National Vaccination Calendar that have fallen in recent years. Since February, the Ministry of Health has been uniting Brazil in the National Movement for Vaccination, which began by strengthening immunization against Covid-19 ”, points out a note from the folder.
Indigenous communities will be vaccinated against various diseases, including covid-19 and influenza. In total, according to the ministry, approximately 11,000 doses of more than 20 types of immunobiologicals will be used.
The strategy is to also take vaccination to riverside and quilombola populations.
