With about 93% of the polls counted, candidate Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) is mathematically elected to the government of São Paulo, with 55.3% of valid votes. Fernando Haddad (PT) has 44.6% of the valid votes. Null votes add up to 6.75% and white votes, 4.01%.
Tarcísio (Republicans) is a 47-year-old career civil servant, graduated from the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN) and graduated in engineering from the Instituto Militar de Engenharia. He was part of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Haiti. He worked in the areas of infrastructure and investment, was president of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), and Minister of Infrastructure. He came out ahead in the first round, with more than 9.1 million votes (42.32%) of the total valid votes. The deputy on the ticket is the administrator Felicio Ramuth.
