Tarata Bridge: Judge dictates 36 months of preventive detention for Pedro Castillo’s nephews

Judge Manuel Chuyo accepted the prosecutor’s request and issued 36 months of preventive detention against Fray Vásquez and Gian Marco Castillo, nephews of the president and former presidential secretary Bruno Pacheco, who are being investigated for the irregular award of the Tarata bridge project.

Chuyo stated at the hearing that the aforementioned investigated obstruct the work of the anti-corruption prosecutor Karla Zecenarro by remaining at large since the end of March.

Likewise, he stated that there are elements of conviction that would show that Vásquez, Castillo Gómez and Pacheco are part of a criminal network that operated by offering different works to companies in charge of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. One of them was Tarata, located in the San Martín region.

“This is a set of actions that are grouped together, behaviors that denote an agreement to benefit the Tarata III bridge consortium, based on objective elements, this allows us to infer that those under investigation are suspects and that there is a high probability that they may be convicted,” he said. The magistrate.

He recalled that there is a report from the Comptroller,in which criminal and administrative responsibilities are identified by the members of the selection committee of Provías Descentralizado, an instance that awarded the work to the Puente Tarata III consortium.

In addition to this evidence, he recorded the statements of Karelim López, the effective collaborator who is linked to that consortium and who declared before Zecenarro that the nephews of President Castillo offered the projects together with the businessman Zamir Villaverde.

The preventive detention order also falls on Villaverde, Luis Pasapera Adrianzén (representative of the consortium), Víctor Valdivia and Edgar Vargas Más; the latter integrated the selection committee. The three were already in preliminary detention, and now they will go to a prison to comply with the dictated arrest.
