The Association of Motorcycle Industrialists, Manufacturers and Assemblers of Venezuela (AIFEM) launched the “Cuidarte is the best route” campaign, with the aim of raising awareness among motorcyclists and reducing the high rate of accidents in the country. The initiative will be deployed throughout the national territory to reinforce the importance of road safety.
In an interview for the program “Al Aire”, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the president of AIFEM, Xiomara Hoyos, indicated that the reason for this campaign responds to the figures from the Road Safety Observatory, which reveal that more than 45% of the traffic accidents that happen in the country involve people who drive motorcycles, mainly young people between 20 and 34 years old.
“We decided to take action on the matter,” said Hoyos, emphasizing that, although the motorized sector is essential for the economy by generating more than four thousand direct jobs and around 20,000 indirect jobs, it is essential to promote awareness and responsibility in the handling of motorcycles.
Likewise, he added the importance of drivers using the correct equipment when driving “there is a technical regulation that tells you exactly which helmet you should use, the helmet called Sandoval does not work,” he said, after stating that “a helmet not only protects the head, it protects the brain, the face, it protects life.”
Finally, Hoyos emphasized that the campaign seeks to transcend communication. “We want this to not be a simple campaign, but a movement, a philosophy of life, that makes our users adopt the culture of road safety.”
