Road Safety Support Unit was created to advance solutions to the problem of traffic accidents
Representatives of various public institutions met this Wednesday at the Headquarters of the Departmental Health Directorate of Cerro Largo to advance solutions to the problem of traffic accidents that affect the country and the department in particular.
The participants valued the formation of this Local Road Safety Support Unit, considering that it is a fundamental contribution to safeguarding human life and minimizing the consequences left by accidents.
“The idea is to start talking interinstitutionally with various actors such as the Ministry of the Interior, health providers, traffic from the Municipality, with primary education and multiple actors so that we can all do our bit to improve road safety.” expressed the Departmental Director of Health of Cerro Largo.
“We are very satisfied with the level of response, we were a little timid about how this was going to be received. We had been dealing with UNASEV, which was interested in generating this Unit in the department to, with its support, achieve this goal that we have, which is to improve the accident rate.” established the Licensed Liliana Denis.
The starting point for the joint work between the institutions was to form this Unit, communicate about its existence to the National Road Safety Unit and work on the guidelines that UNASEV has, determining how each one from the corresponding place can make contributions.
“The idea is not to become another Commission that meets in a cathartic way because all institutions have problems. We want to generate a culture of road safety” the leader stated. “This takes time, it is not done overnight. This problem does have to be established. Many of us did not know what each institution does for road safety. We all have a role and we all do something. We had to collectivize it and see the opportunities we had for the community to also access these services.” said Liliana Denis.
EDUCATE FOR 15 YEARS WITHIN
“We are delighted, really delighted. We deeply thank the Director of Health because this marks the beginning of the work of the Departmental Road Safety Commission” express Washington Barreto.
“In this meeting I was surrounded by people who talk about what we always talk about, which is safeguarding human life” remarked the Traffic Manager of the Municipality of Cerro Largo.
“One of the participants said that the little ones control the parents if we educate them” held. “We are going to do that, but we are going to educate for 15 years from now. At School 75 we gave them a Family Inspector card after having received primary school classes. Imagine how that child looked when later his father did something that was not appropriate. That is the goal. We have been there for three months and it seems like three years ago. The good thing is that we are walking and when we feel this support, we feel really supported.” Barreto said in a parenthesis at the meeting that took place this Wednesday at the Departmental Health Directorate.
MOST IMPORTANT AND GREATEST IMPACT RESULTS
“The most important thing about this instance is to find each other. There was that question that each one was doing something in their institution but this union was missing, this articulation that will generate enormous synergy” considered the Teacher Lucy Larrosa.
“1+1 is not the same, here the result is going to be much more important and have a greater impact” he opined.
“Our goal is to take care of life” summarized the Director of Education and Culture. “We must also ensure that there are fewer consequences after the accident because it is not only the lives that are lost but also the conditions in which the people involved in an accident are left. This objective speaks of what community we are or what community we want to be and what coexistence we want to have. This has to do with well-being, with the quality of life that we want for our department, for our young people, for our children and for our elderly. That is why we celebrate this event” Larrosa concluded.
