Defense Minister Jorge Taiana stated this Friday that The Malvinas Islands “are a symbol of Argentina’s sovereignty and future”leading together with the president of Fabricaciones Militares (FM), Iván Durigón, the inauguration of “Malvinas Iluminadas”, a work by the artist Alejandro Marmo located as part of the commemorations of the 40th anniversary of the South Atlantic Conflict that are taking place this year .

“The Malvinas are the symbol of sovereignty because they also embody a significant part of the future of Argentina in the 21st century in the fight for renewable and non-renewable resources and it does so from the perspective of development with an eye on the future. sea, on the islands, in the South Atlantic and in Antarctica”, explained Taiana during the speech she gave during the ceremony, which took place at the FM headquarters, at Cabildo 65 in the City of Buenos Aires.

For the minister, it is significant that the work is in FM, a state company that was created in 1941 with the purpose of “strengthening the defense industry in particular and the industrialization of Argentina in general.”

Also, stressed that the inauguration of the work is given to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Malvinas War and on the eve of November 20, the day of Sovereigntywhen the Battle of the Forced Return is remembered.

“Sovereignty must be defended, understanding it as the defense of the territory. It is about defending the lives of Argentines and being able to direct our destinies in favor of the well-being of our people. Inaugurating a monument to the Malvinas at 40 years and in Military Fabrications has a double meaning, because Military Fabrications itself is a symbol of sovereignty,” the minister said in dialogue with Télam.

And he added: “Exposing the Malvinas is exposing an ever-present claim to sovereignty that we Argentines identify as what belongs to us, what is ours and what they have taken from us.”

On the other hand, the minister considered that “the industrialization of the country is essential and cannot be postponed” in pursuit of “gaining quotas of autonomy to strengthen ourselves.”

Present during the inauguration were the Secretary of Research, Industrial Policy and Production for Defense, Daniela Castro; the vice president of FM, Oscar Galante as well as other authorities and workers.

Meanwhile, the president of FM, Iván Durigón, affirmed that “talking about sovereignty is being able to feel that the Malvinas are still Argentine despite everything and that the military factory has to go back to what it once was.”

“As (Vice President) Cristina (Fernandez de Kirchner) said, ‘there are good and bad, there are interests’ and after a long process, after the privatizations of the 1990s, today we are working to restructure the military factory,” he remarked.

In this sense, he expressed that “currently the outlook is much better, most of the plants are operating at full capacity” and anticipated that the FM plant in the town of Azul will reopen in the first months of 2023.

At the beginning of the act, the military band “Ituzaingó” of the 1st Artillery Regiment played for those present marches and patriotic songs in honor of those who died in Malvinas, after which the Argentine anthem was sung in the voice of Fabio Santana, ex-combatant from Malvinas .

After the reproduction of a tribute video produced by the Ministry of Defense, in which it was highlighted that “Malvinas is our homeland, our history, our present and our future”Taiana and Durigon proceeded to discover the work.

Next to the stage mounted on the front of the FM building, on Cabildo avenue, emblematic photographs taken throughout the Malvinas war were exhibited, mostly from the photographic collection of the national news agency Télam.

As a closing, the military band “Ituzaingó” and the ex-combatant Santana sang the Malvinas March.

The work that from now on can be seen on the left side of the entrance to the FM building, was produced by the renowned Argentine plastic artist Marmo, who is also the author of the two giant murals by Eva Perón exhibited on the building’s facades. of the Ministry of Social Development, located on Avenida 9 de Julio in downtown Buenos Aires.

“The map of Malvinas Iluminadas is built with gears, cultural and national sovereignty is built with each one of us who are gears,” said the author of the work. to this agency.

For Marmo, “Malvinas Iluminadas is part of and is the responsibility of the veterans, I am a simple citizen who comes to accompany the cause.”
