Defense Minister Jorge Taiana highlighted the “solid bilateral relations in defense matters” that Argentina maintains with the countries participating in the “Velas Latinoamérica 2022” regatta, by leading a meeting with naval attaches from the region at the Naval Base Mar del Silver who attended this competition.
“With each of the countries present here we have solid bilateral relations in defense matters and a work agenda that we want to energize with determination,” said Taiana.according to a statement released by the Defense portfolio.
The head of the Defense portfolio, in front of representatives from Uruguay, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru, pointed out that “it is very important that there is a regatta in the region that shows our Navies together and promotes interoperability with a message of friendship and fellowship.”
“Last year the President of the Nation and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Alberto Fernández, signed the decree of the National Defense Policy Directive (DPDN)” recalled Taina, and said that in the document “our strategic positioning as defensive, cooperative and autonomous”.

The regatta began last Wednesday “with a great parade”, off the coast of Mar del Plata, in the area of Cabo Corrientes,” according to what was detailed.
The participating ships have already visited the cities and ports of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Montevideo (Uruguay), and anchored off Punta del Este.

After passing through Mar del Plata, they will continue to Punta Arenas and Valparaíso (Chile), El Callao (Peru), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Panama City (Panama), Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Curaçao and Veracruz (Mexico).
It was explained that the voyage “includes more than three months navigating the waters that bathe the coasts of Latin America” and that during the stay in the different ports “the general public will have the opportunity to tour the sailboats and participate in the development of the activities scheduled”.
