A young driver is clinging to life at the Hipólito Unanue Hospital in Tacna, after suffering multiple injuries in a violent car crash early this morning at kilometer 26 of the Costanera highway, in the jurisdiction of the La Yarada Los Palos district in Tacna.

Officers from the La Yarada Los Palos police station and the Highway Police (Polcar) headquarters in Boca del Río attended the scene of the traffic accident, confirming that it was a head-on collision between a truck and a car, both vehicles with significant damage to the front.
Early morning collision
The traffic accident occurred after 2 hours and involved the gray Hyundai Avante brand car with license plate ANO-654 driven by Wilson Calisaya Yujra (29) and the white and red Isuzu truck with license plate V4I-791 driven by José Salas Sánchez (47).

Preliminary investigations indicate that vehicle ANO-654 was traveling on that road from east to west (from Tacna to the Boca del Río resort or port of Ilo), while the larger vehicle was traveling from west to east (Arequipa to Tacna).
Evacuated to emergency
According to the police officers involved, it was a traffic accident involving a left-sided eccentric frontal collision between two vehicles, with one person injured and material damage. The worst of the incident was the driver of the car, Calisaya Yujra, who was rescued by paramedics from Samu and evacuated to the local hospital.
Wilson Calizaya Yufra (29) entered the Unanue Hospital Emergency Service at 3:23 a.m. The diagnosis he was given was “polytraumatized due to a traffic accident, severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), exposed fracture of the left femoral condyle (knee), fracture of the left ulna and radius (arm), left femoral tibial dislocation (leg), to rule out closed abdominal trauma” and he was left with mechanical ventilation sedation and analgesia.
