The Comptroller General of the Republic – CGR showed that patients in vulnerable conditions who are treated in the Emergency Unit of the Daniel Alcides Carrión Hospital III of EsSalud in Tacna are evaluated on stretchers located in the hallways, which prevents adequate health control.
During the control visit carried out from September 24 to 30, it was also evident that medicine topics operate in non-regulatory physical spaces, which limits the mobility of patients and healthcare personnel, even more so when the use of wheelchairs is required.
Medicine shortage
The topic of Nursing operates in a similar situation, where lack of space affects the administration and application of patients’ medications. Added to these deficiencies in the Emergency Unit is the lack of personnel for the observation room, putting the procedures and care provided to the insured at risk.
The Control Visit Report No. 12276-2025-CG/GRTA-SVC also reveals that in the Pharmacy unit there is a shortage of five types of medications and the stock of another 73 medications is enough for a two-month supply.
Insufficient stretchers and monitors
Likewise, it warns that the Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit does not have the established number of stretchers and cardiac monitors, which puts at risk the length of stay and monitoring of patients after their operations. Meanwhile, the oxygen plant lacks the biomedical equipment necessary to analyze the purity of the medicinal oxygen that is administered to policyholders.
