The National Police of Peru carried out an operation in the main fairs of the city of Tacna in order to seize products that are prohibited from being commercialized, such as pyrotechnic devices.

The operation was deployed at the “La Bombonera Fair”, which takes place on Mondays in the Ciudad Nueva district, the “Bolivian Fair” and the “Altiplano Fair”, which takes place within the facilities of the Héroes del Alto stadium of the Alliance, known as the former Maracana.

Commander Godofredo Pérez, head of the Central Police Station, explained that with information from the Intelligence Division of the Macro Police Region, boxes of pyrotechnic items have been seized that put the life and health of the population at risk.

He pointed out that the items probably came from the highlands and would not have the respective legal documentation. Likewise, at first the merchants offered resistance to the intervention but later they understood that the sale of these products has been prohibited for a decade.
One arrested for resisting
A woman identified as Araceli Copaja Mamani (31) was arrested and taken to the Alto de Alianza police station for confronting the uniformed officers. The balls with the explosive devices were also taken to that unit.
Commander Pérez said that the merchants were also warned that the presence of these pyrotechnics also put their fair at risk since there are hundreds of raffia stalls, which, being a highly flammable material, could catch fire easily and quickly.
