Tacna: Expectations for foreign investment to become viable in Zofratacna

The president of the Tacna Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Production, Corinne Flores Lemaire, said that there is an expectation that the new Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Ursula Desilú León, who has studied in the city, will make important announcements that will facilitate foreign investment in Zofratacna, which on September 25 celebrates 35 years of institutional life.

“Tacna needs to modify Article 71 and the tariff items of Zofratacna. There is great expectation, hopefully it will go back to how it was before, even if it is only for Zofratacna. Hopefully, on the 25th there will be some changes,” he said.

Investment restrictions

He recalled that Zofratacna worked for 29 years with foreign investments, however, in 2016 a new regulation was passed restricting the entry of capital. Since then, the Chamber has struggled with various institutions and ministerial portfolios to enable the entry of companies.

“Many companies are knocking on the door to invest in Zofratacna, it generates revenue from the tariff that is sent to different areas and allows for the execution of works, but it also allows us to do what we all ask for, which is work, that is why the free zone is important,” the president stressed.

Finally, he added that the new Minister of Mincetur has studied in Tacna and therefore knows what Zotac means, then Ceticos and now Zofratacna.
