Tacna. The Criminal Appeals Chamber ruled that the former mayor of the Ite district Ysaúl Rivera Sánchez serve three years in effective prison for the crime of embezzlement by appropriation, after not complying with reparations of 3 million 682 thousand soles to the Peruvian State.
Rivera was sentenced to a suspended sentence, in 2017, by the Second Criminal Court for the loss of 4 million soles in the execution of the Locumba – Margarata highway. The ex-authority appealed, but it was in vain and the Justice did not agree with him.
On January 20, 2021, the Public ministry He asked that the suspension of the sentence for not returning the money be revoked and that it be effective. After going through three judicial instances, on October 25, the Criminal Chamber ruled in favor of the Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the capture of Rivera.

The former mayor won the municipal elections of Ite in 2018, but could not take office in 2019 due to the current sentence. In her place, Rosalía Machaca entered, the second on her list and the only mayor in the region Tacna.
