Tacna: Bishop Marco Antonio will bless bouquets after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic

The bishop of the Diocese of Tacna and Moquegua Marco Cortez Lara today, Sunday, April 10, will bless the branches of the faithful as part of the Palm Sunday acts, in a face-to-face act that will take place after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic COVID-19.

The activity will take place in the Civic Center, at the height of the Parabolic Arch, at 7 am, where there will first be a homily and then in procession they will go to the Cathedral where a mass will be officiated.

These are days to reflect

Cortez Lara exhorted the faithful to live the days of Holy Week reflecting on the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who freed us from sin and not just take it as a custom and days of rest.

“Holy Week has a theological content, not the usual, and Christians must put in the effort and become aware of what we celebrate,” he said.

Masses throughout the day

The bishop said that he will only officiate the first mass in the Cathedral, but three others will be given for the assistance of the faithful at 12 noon, 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Similar acts will be held in the parishes of Tacna and Moquegua. He noted that the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Tacna and Moquegua, Monsignor Juan Asqui Pilco, will hold the celebration in the co-cathedral of Moquegua.

Previous celebrations were virtual

He clarified that bouquets will not be given to the faithful to avoid crowds inside the cathedral and the permitted capacity will be respected.

The religious celebrations for Holy Week with the presence of the faithful are resumed after two years. The previous ones took place virtually and without people in the temples of the Diocese.
