The state of Táchira has registered a record of road accidents during the last weekend, setting off the alarms of the authorities. Táchira Civil Protection reported an increase of almost 30% in road events, recording a total of 58 accidents with 76 people injured and unfortunately one fatal victim.
The director of Táchira Civil Protection and Head of Zoedan, Yesnardo Canal, stated that despite inter-institutional efforts, the lack of awareness among drivers has caused October to end as one of the most tragic months of the year, with a balance of 11 fatalities, 199 injuries and 169 road incidents.
“Recklessness results in youth being the most affected.” Canal explained that the deceased ranged from 15 to 30 years of age. Furthermore, he emphasized that in an alarming 91% of cases, the victims traveled on motorcycles.
Given this panorama, for the remaining two months of 2025, new control mechanisms will be implemented in conjunction with the security forces.
These operations will focus especially on the entry and exit routes of the Andean entity and will be reinforced in the municipalities with the highest incidence of accidents, such as San Cristóbal, Cárdenas, Torbes, Fernández Feo and García de Hevia.
