Dozens of children from the district of Tacabamba, in the province of Chota, Cajamarca region, expose their lives by studying in classrooms closed by Civil Defense. According to a report by Cuarto Poder, schoolchildren should attend the Víctor Herrera Delgado school, which was completed in 2014 and was going to be handed over to the Ministry of Education (Minedu), but since it did not have basic services, it was rejected.
Therefore, five months ago the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, -who traveled to the area- promised to provide a solution to this problem that has afflicted the population for eight years, however, everything remains the same.
“What he told us is that he was going to send the Minister of Education and let us send him our list of demands, our needs. The Minister of Education has not yet been present”, revealed José María Sánchez, director of the Víctor Herrera Delgado school.
According to the Sunday, the work was carried out by the Municipality of Tacabamba and cost about 5.5 million soles. Currently the infrastructure looks deteriorated and the areas that should be full of students have been invaded by chickens, pigs and other farm animals.
While the students wait for the work to be resolved, they must attend classes even in classrooms that Civil Defense closed. “In this pavilion that is closed and cracked. The problem is that we don’t have other environments to accommodate students. In that classroom there are an average of 30 to 32 students. The 5th grade works in this pavilion that is about to collapse”, Sanchez said.
Along these lines, he called on President Castillo to keep his promise. “Hopefully he will do everything on his part with the ministers and the entire Executive Power who will build us a new emblematic school with all the communities. Only I think political will, that he order his officials to do it and comply with it”.
What did Castillo say during his visit to Tacabamba?
“It is up to the Government to act immediately and from here I reiterate that no more time should pass. The Minister of Education must be with the entire team as soon as possible and carry out the corresponding investigations and provide the solution”said the president during his visit to the district on February 20.
